Apple loves 1394 (Firewire) for video!

 Apple first and then others followed the serial bit road using 1394a or Firewire to Apple and iLink to Sony. It is a fact that 1394 is a perfect protocol for transporting video between devices and Apple saw the advantages as a maker of NLE editing products.
