What about equipping Final Cut Pro for video capture?
What do I need to capture DV SD or HD video?
DV requires about 3.6 Megabytes per second of disk bandwidth to capture over Firewire. A single ATA/SATA disk can easily accommodate this data transfer speed and the Firewire connection is optimal for capturing from a 1394 equipped device.
Recently, Apple released FCP HD, which incorporates Firewire capture from DVCPRO HD or a 400 Mb 1394 device. Panasonic is currently the only manufacturer of a tape deck that can accommodate HD over Firewire. The Panasonic DVCPRO HD cameras capture video at a camera speed of about 14 MBps.
Standard Definition video capture is an uncompressed format using either 8 or 10 bit digital or analog (Y-U-V). The data rate of approximately 20-23 MB/sec requires more than a single disk drive to sustain the data rate necessary for solid capture of uncompressed video. An analog or digital stream capture card or device from an analog or digital format tape with a videotape deck is necessary.
