FAQ About Installing MacOsX
Fresh Installation Of MacOsX

Installing OS X

I recommend that as every new major version of the MacOs X upgrade hits the street, to back up everything on your primary boot disk and then initialize that disk using Disk Utility before starting to load the new version of the operating system. It is advisable to reload the operating system at some regular interval for stability purposes, and when the new shrink wrapped version of OS X hits your desk, it is a good time to reinitialize the boot disk.

Start by loading the Install Disk 1 into the CD/DVD drive of your Macintosh and then select from the Apple Menu; reboot. Hold down the “C” keyboard key and this should start off the process. First choose to use Disk Utility to initialize your boot disk and then continue with the installation until it is time to reboot your machine.

Once the system is restarted, you are now running on your new copy of OS X. The Finder will present to you a message asking for the disk #2 an then it will finish the total operating system install.Your Macintosh must be connected to the internet to continue.

Run the Software Updates program to get the latest versions of Apple application updates for your system.

At this time, you are done only if the new software has no dot updates available through the Software Updates mechanism. If you have reloaded Panther 10.3 and the current version is 10.3.4, you will need to continue the process.
